Ingredients

Mongolian Beef:

  • 2 New York Strip Steaks, thinly sliced (about 1 1/2 pounds)
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 green onions, sliced into 1-inch pieces
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish:

  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the sliced steak with salt and pepper. Toss the steak in cornstarch until fully and evenly coated. Set aside.

  2. Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of oil. Add garlic and ginger and sauté for 1 minute. Add soy sauce, water, and sugar, and bring to a boil until the sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes.

  3. Pour the sauce into a liquid measuring cup and set it aside.

  4. Place the skillet back over heat and add the remaining oil. Add the steak and sear until evenly browned on both sides, about 1 to 2 minutes per side.

  5. Pour the sauce back into the skillet and stir together with the beef. Simmer and allow the sauce to thicken, about 1 to 2 minutes.

  6. Toss in green onions and continue
